Irina Troitskaya is a Russian journalist-come-illustrator.

I love how culturally true her work is, in style and in medium. A great example of this is her Matreshkas, or Babuskha dolls.

You can see more of her stuff at her folio site.

Jon Paton used to make potato prints as a kid, but has since become a real boy and now makes crazy detailed woodblock prints inspired by Japanese tattoo art and brooding landscapes.
His work transforms blockprinting traditions while subverting them at the same time, bringing the artform into a completely new area. Based in Melbourne, his works can be viewed at the National Gallery of Victoria’s Ian Potter Centre.

Welcome to the Silhouette Masterpiece Theatre. Here, Wilhelm Staehle (who could very well be the head creative for Harper Collins design) uses a contrast of Victorian illustration with comically dark lines and pop culture references to satirise traditional English life and culture.

I especially love the small details used in the design - note the irregular type face and slight staining on the silhouettes themselves.
